Women in the Media

These are student examples from the cross-listed course in WMST 3333/MSCM 3333, "Women in the Media" in Fall 2025. This course explores how Black girls and women shape it. We examine how Black womanhood is represented, curated, and challenged across TV, film, music, digital platforms, and culture. Through readings, reflections, creative projects, and the use of The HistoryMakers Digital Archive, we ask: What does it mean to be fly and fabulous in the face of stereotypes? How do Black women use media to craft identity, community, and resistance? What stories deserve to be archived, uplifted, and reimagined? This class is a space for critical thinking, creative expression, and collective joy.

The featured attachments are examples of final projects and accompanying artist statements that students completed in this course. The students provide in-depth analysis of the course themes, their chosen texts, and interweave popular culture about Black women in the media throughout their video exhibits and essays.
