Scholarship/Research

My research explores the creative, cultural, and political dimensions of Black life through the lens of performance. Grounded in Black feminist thought and digital culture, my work uses performance as a method for examining how meaning is produced, shared, and felt across everyday contexts. I am particularly interested in how ordinary experiences—rituals, gestures, digital practices, and storytelling—shape how Black people make meaning, and how scholars can more thoughtfully communicate those processes.

My work primarily uses autoethnography as both method and theory. As a research praxis, autoethnography allows me to center lived experience as a site of knowledge production, situating the self in relation to culture, memory, and performance. This approach aligns with my commitment to Black feminist methodologies that value embodiment, reflexivity, and relational knowledge-making.

Across my projects, I examine themes such as Black women, Black joy, horror, natural hair, food and culture, and performance archives. Rather than treating these areas as separate, I approach them as interconnected sites where performance reveals the emotional, cultural, and political textures of Black life. This is demonstrated through poetry, song, call-and-response, prose, comedy, sometimes dance, and much more.

This section highlights how these topics shape my research and offers insight into the theoretical questions and creative practices that guide my current and future scholarship. I do not have a specific tab for conferences attended and presented at because many of those projects result in publications or develop another life in my performance productions. You can find a list of those specific items in the CV on page five.

The following sections are organized as follows: Performances, Publications, In-process Publications, Future Research, Fellowships, Invited Keynotes/Talks/Lectures, and Professional Development.
